About

My name is Philomena and I grew up in Rockland, Maine. As far back as I can remember, I have been picking up pencils, and eventually coming around on pens, to create scenes of different creatures. Mice, frogs, people, cats, dogs, chickens, fish; I love to draw life. I hop between styles often, having not found just one that I can stick with completely. I love to draw a quick, little cartoon of my cats, but there is also a great appeal to a portrait based in realism, as there is in a traditional illustration of woodland creatures in scenes of peaceful living. Overall, I like to make artwork with a general feeling of friendship, family, and community. My favorite and primary mediums are pencils and pens. I like to use graphite pencils, watercolor pencils, and colored pencils. My biggest inspiration for my work is Beatrix Potter. I find her work very peaceful and that is what I try to bring to life in my own artwork. Though I have a few different styles, I have found a feeling of peace as a general theme in my work, throughout the process and visible in the final product.
